The Republic of Congo, also known as Congo-Brazzaville or Congo, is a country in Central Africa, bordering Gabon, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Congo-Kinshasa and the Cabinda exclave of Angola. It is a former French colony.
Agriculture is the most important sector in terms of employment, but the energy sector has a major impact on the economy. A large part of GNP and state income are related to this. In 1973, oil production started and in the period 2007-2016 production averaged around 270,000 barrels of oil per day. With the known reserves, this production level can be sustained for another 15 years.
